ISO 9001 is an international standard administered by the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) and it is currently in use in over one million organizations around the world. It is a standard that can be used in both product and service industries, and truly is a worldwide standard for quality.
We have been ISO 9001:2008 certified for a number of years, and this year, we are refocusing our efforts on maximising the benefits the standard offers us. In addition, we are also planning on gaining ISO 27001 certification which relates to Information Security Management. By obtaining this additional certification, we are further demonstrating our commitment to information and data security.
Within our industry, ISO 9001 certification is a necessity, but we get a lot back from the effort necessary to maintain it! Here are some of the benefits that we have recognised since we have been certified:
- Higher customer satisfaction;
- Better management decision making
- Increased personnel satisfaction
- Improved company and product/service quality;
- Clear and defined company processes and workflows;
- Improved consistency of operations;
- Increased competitive edge due to better access to contracts and tendering processes that have ISO 9001:2008 as a pre-requisite.
At SCM, we are creating training opportunities for all personnel to gain more knowledge on the standard and embrace their responsibilities in committing to its requirements. As Senior Administrator, I am undertaking an IRCA-certified Internal Auditor course in April 2015 to enable me to support management in the auditing process.
It is the company’s 30th anniversary this year and we are dedicated to continuing to provide high quality service to all our clients. We believe that through maintaining our current ISO certification, undertaking further quality management training, and obtaining ISO 27001, we can exceed even the previous high quality of service that we have provided.
